WEATHER UPDATE: In consultation with area emergency management officials, all Lafourche Parish public schools and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, and all school-related activities are canceled. Decisions regarding Tuesday will be made Monday, and we will provide an update to our families regarding the safe reopening of schools once we are able to assess our campuses for any weather-related impacts. We will also continue working cooperatively with local authorities to ensure conditions are safe for students and staff to return. We will communicate updates on school operations through employee email, SchoolStatus, social media and our website, mylpsd.com. We encourage everyone to stay safe and warm and take precautionary measures.

As of now, we do not anticipate any changes to school-related activities scheduled for the weekend. A decision regarding Monday will be made no later than 5 p.m. Saturday. Once a decision is made, we will inform our families through employee email, website updates, Facebook and OnCourse Connect, and direct notifications will be sent through SchoolStatus texts, emails, and phone calls. Please continue to monitor these outlets for official updates. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these potential weather challenges together.

National Principals Month: Jordan Dufrene
To celebrate National Principals Month, we’re sharing some fun facts about our amazing school administrators. Today you’ll learn more about Mr. Jordan Dufrene, principal of Thibodaux Elementary School.
Here’s the inside scoop on Mr. Dufrene:
🐯 He’s in his second year as principal.
🐯 He says the most rewarding part of being a principal is seeing his goal of always advocating for the students, staff, and community of Thibodaux Elementary come together to enhance the learning and lives of everyone he comes into contact with. “I have always been a people-person, so I love interacting with my school community in a positive way. It is so rewarding to see the impact it makes to simply smile, make conversation, and be nice. It never gets old! Teaching and learning can sometimes prove to be tricky, but the easiest way to reach a student is by valuing who they are as a person. I tell my students three affirmations every day during my morning announcements, and I live by them. My students are told each morning that they are loved, they are heard, and they are seen. To me, that is so rewarding and important!”
🐯 His favorite subject in school was chemistry because he enjoyed working in the lab alongside his friends.
🐯 His favorite school lunch is baked chicken and parsley rice.
🐯 He would love to publish a children’s book one day.
🐯 Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family in Grand Isle, going crabbing, and taking cruises.
🐯 Fun Fact: During college, he went to Starbucks so much that the baristas knew his name, his order, and what time he was going to be there. Whenever he would walk in, his coffee would be waiting for him.
